Justin Mupundu – Green & Clean Justin
Green & Clean Justin is a project created by Zambian based environmental advocate and journalist, Justin Mupundu. This work is based on the innovative conservation approach based on the sustainable green jobs known as Green Rangers. The project will empower local communities, handing over responsibilities related to conservation to the local communities with a privilege system so as to facilitate efficient, effective, equitable, and sustainable tools.
The Green Rangers will serve as role models to facilitate conservation projects, and effectively influence attitude -change. The project will use the power of Green & Clean Neighbor instinct and green stories of transformed environments and surroundings to influence attitude change and spearhead the green movement.
Agbor Miralish Ewube, Ako Achare Cicilia – New Vision Academy
New Vision Academy is a self-learning program for internally displaced children and school dropouts in southwest, Cameroon. Since 2016, over 500,000 people have been displaced in southwest and northwest Cameroon as a result of the Anglophone crisis that has plagued the country for three years. New Vision Academy was founded to take care of the educational needs of internally displaced children who have gone for up to three academic years without school.
Project leader, Agbor Miralish Ewube, is pained to see children loiter about every day without going to school. “I understand that children are the leaders of tomorrow and without education their future is lost.” The project will follow the Cameroon school curriculum, including psycho-social activities and personal security. Teachers will receive refresher training and some learning materials will be acquired to equip the learning structures.
Peter Adeeko – War Widows Development Scheme
Soulace Africa War Widows Development Scheme is a community based veterans widow’s empowerment initiative in Ibadan, Nigeria. This program is designed to advocate for social inclusion, sustainable income generation, and decent employment of veterans widow’s in the community.
Tree Is Life – Tree Planting
The Tree Planting project is designed by John Mabula to sensitize his community and fellow Tanzanians about environmental conservation, tree planting, and a clean environment. This work includes sensitizing and training individuals on how to plant, grow, and protect trees in Ruvu, North Forest Reserve, Tanzania.
John will recruit community volunteers, student groups, specialized organizations, and community leaders to engage a well-rounded group of people.
Community Outreach For Educational Change – Rural Education And Literacy (REL) Project
The Rural Education and Literacy (REL) Project is an initiative of community Outreach for Educational Change (COEC), a non-profit organization founded by long time professional teacher, Swanta Blessing Bonat. COEC’s work is aimed at influencing the educational processes for improved outcomes, especially for children in rural and low-income households who are at the mercy of a decaying public education system. COEC’s firm belief is that no child should be left behind as every child deserves a quality education irrespective of his or her social status and geographical location.
The Pollination Project grant would enable COEC to set up a literacy centre that is focused on teaching individuals, both young and old, English skills.
Pasay Pups – Pasay Pups Kids’ Program
Pasay Pups Kids’ Program operates in Pasay Municipal Cemetery in the Philippines, where approximately 100 families and 400 children live amongst the graves. The children in this area live in extreme poverty, with no running water, electricity or sanitation. Many do not attend school and families scavenge food from the trash just to survive. Pasay Pups runs a weekly kids’ program that aims to provide the children with a positive space where they can learn, be inspired and be empowered.
The program provides lessons on math, writing, and reading, and basic life skills, along with opportunities to partake in crafts and games; ultimately giving kids the space to be kids in a positive environment.
The Unique School Project, Batoke – Skills Impactation Through School Gardening
Skills Impactation through School Gardening – also known as Garden in Wheels – is an initiative being carried out by Nojang Dominic Nojang, Coordinator of School Unique CIG, a comprehensive basic and vocational education project based in Batoke, Limbe, Cameroon. This initiative will train youths on how to develop a vegetable garden in very limited space using old car tires.
The project is being tailored to teach poor and vulnerable children, especially those who have been internally displaced due to the current socio-political crisis facing the two English speaking regions of Cameroon, on how to effectively maintain a vegetable garden in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner.
Nojang was inspired to do this work as the Cameroonian crisis displaced a large number of youth and thus he saw an opportunity to bring them together and renew their hope through sustainable agriculture. Funds will enable him to gather the vegetable seedlings as well as other materials needed for the training.
Aliu Oluwafemi Royal – MyFarmbase AgriTech Lab
MyFarmbase AgriTech Lab is a 2-day class and field immersive training session is hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, which unearths the opportunities using technology in agribusiness and how youths can leverage them to create sustainable income for themselves. The training will embrace role plays, scenario building, and real-life use cases. It is designed to be as enlightening as possible of the steps to start and run a successful agric-tech enterprise as well as critical steps to land an agric-tech job locally and internationally. This is in a bid to cut down on youth unemployment and promote youth engagement in agriculture.
This grant will help MyFarmbase to secure a training space and materials needed to train selected youths.
Association For Community Awareness – Clean Coastal Area For Sustainable Development In Cameroon
The Clean Coastal Area for Sustainable Development in Cameroon project aims at cleaning, sorting, and documenting waste collected from the beach area of Limbe, Southwest, Cameroon while creating awareness on the hazards of environmental pollution and serving as an eye-opener for other civil society organization. This initiative is part of the Association for Community Awareness – ASCOA. ASCOA will organize a workshop during the celebration of the 2019 International Coastal Clean-up Day with the local population along the area.
This work is important as the community has seen an increase in the accumulation of litter and water along the coastline, causing environmental pollution and community health problems. The area is one of the most popular tourism sites, with it being the most visited beaches of national and international individuals for leisure and research. ASCOA is inspired to engage in this work as environmental protection is one of their largest focus areas. In all, the workshop, media sensitization, and the purchase of working tools will allow them to achieve their goals.
Fair World ONG – No More Disparities Between Students In City And Rural Area
Fair World is a non-profit organization operating in Benin with the vision to contribute to a fair and just world. They work in various fields that match with various sustainable development goals – SDG. The No More Disparities Between Students in City and Rural Area project consists in providing learning materials to students aligns with with the SDG 4, which ensures an inclusive and equitable quality education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Schools located in Benin’s rural areas don’t have the same educational facilities as those in the city, where all students, regardless of location, take the same exams.
Ndobegang Sylvanus, Digeng Saraphine – Reclaiming Livelihoods In Fontem, Cameroon
Ndobegang Sylvanus, a humanitarian worker, is the initiator of the Reclaim Livelihoods project. The Anglophone crisis in Cameroon has severely fractured the livelihoods of over 550,000 people, who are now internally displaced. This conflict – which became an armed confrontation between the central government and non-state armed groups – started almost two years ago in late 2017.
Sylvanus is working with Digeng Saraphine, an IDP, to help restore hope and sustainable livelihoods for young girls, whom are one of the most vulnerable segment of the displaced and affected population, in the remote villages of Lebialem, of Southwest Cameroon
Ada Acobta, Azah Abanda, C. Onya, F. Lydia – Beat The Bottle
Beat the Bottle is an initiative aimed at tackling the problem of plastic pollution in communities in and around the city of Buea, South West, Cameroon. Through education and awareness raising about the harmful effects of plastic waste pollution, the project will organize local communities to take an active role in waste collection and management. Households in the targeted communities, along with local businesses and primary and secondary schools, will receive education and be provided the necessary resources to collect, sort, and store plastic waste for monthly pickups. The collected waste will be picked up by volunteers and channeled to partner organizations for recycling.
This approach tackles the problem at its source, drastically reducing the amount of plastic litter that ends up on street corners, in storm drainage, streams, drainage ditches and eventually into the ocean.
The approach engages youth and local community members in education and cleanup of plastic on their streets, waterways and beaches, which helps develop a culture of ownership and accountability as they play an active role in the cleanup of their surrounding environments.
Open Cages UK – Stand With Chickens – #StandWithChickens
Open Cages UK inspire people to stand up for farm animals who are treated cruelly and literally cannot stand up for themselves. According to recent studies, chickens show empathy and use long-term memory to solve problems and build relationships. Even knowing this information, each year over one billion chickens in the UK endure severe pain and stress in filthy intensive factory farms to become cheap meat. Open Cages UK seeks to prevent farmed animal suffering.
Their #StandWithChickens project documents factory farm conditions and educates folks on how meat is produced and chickens suffer in the process. They also influence supermarkets by pressuring stores to commit to specific welfare standards and be honest about the products they sell. These activities can create social change that will ultimately end factory farming and create a more compassionate world. Animals must be both free from harm and respected as sentient beings.
Help For Orphans In Cameroon – Healing The Split In The Psyche
Help For Orphans in Cameroon was founded by Helen Tabe with a mission to improve the mental health among orphans in Cameroon as well as provide career counselling for career options. The particular project – Healing the Split in the Psyche – is a psychotherapy program to heal traumatized orphans with psychological disorders in Muea, Southern Cameroon. The therapy shall explore the darkest parts of orphans’ psyche that is causing the split and bring it to light to reduce the conflict in their subconscious for mind-body connection. The types of therapies shall include cognitive behavioral therapy, which will unravel cognitive distortions using worksheets and Socratic questioning, therapeutic drawing, which will express painful emotions for inner healing, and psychodrama, which will express feelings through acting past memories on stage.
Since traumatic events have profound effects on cognitive, emotional, and physical functioning in children, this program will release happy hormones, such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, which will boost their moods, relax nerves, and improve one’s self-esteem, prosocial behavior, and socialization skills. Funds from The Pollination Project will support us to buy 75 benches for the psychotherapy unit.
