Location: NIGERIA

Beneficiaries: 10,000 children across five communities and schools in Lagos.

Education and environmental awareness go hand in hand in shaping a sustainable future. In Nigeria, the SDG Literacy Drive 3.0, led by Mr. Tenn Zipa and Ekopages, is proving just that, empowering thousands of children with knowledge about literacy, climate action, and sustainability. With the support of The Pollination Project, this initiative has transformed learning spaces into hubs of creativity and environmental stewardship, ensuring that young minds are equipped to become the next generation of eco-champions.

The Project

Designed to engage over 10,000 children across five schools and communities, this initiative seamlessly blended literacy, sustainability, and interactive learning. The project kicked off with the PlayforthePlanet novelty match, a unique approach that combined sports, storytelling, and hands-on sustainability activities. Through book donations, mobile libraries, tree planting, and clean energy demonstrations, the program instilled foundational literacy skills while fostering climate awareness. By integrating SDG-themed games, DIY projects, and solar lamp assemblies, the initiative empowered young minds to take ownership of their environment and advocate for sustainability.

The Impact of the Seed Grant

The Pollination Project grant played an important role in amplifying the reach and impact of the SDG Literacy Drive 3.0. With the funding, Ekopages was able to provide over 5,000 SDG-themed books, establish more than ten mobile hanging libraries made from recycled materials, and engage students in hands-on sustainability activities such as upcycling workshops and tree planting.

The grant also facilitated partnerships with green organizations, government agencies, and educators, enhancing access to quality education and equipping children with the knowledge and skills to become eco-champions. By enabling the expansion of these critical literacy and sustainability efforts, TPP’s support reinforced Ekopages’ mission of making sustainability education both accessible and engaging for underserved communities.

The Future

In 2025, Ekopages plans to launch a Teacher Training program on Climate Education and Green Practices, hosting a week-long workshop for 600 teachers in Lagos State. Additionally, the PlayforthePlanet Novelty Match will return, leveraging sports to raise awareness about climate change and sustainable living, while the SDG Art & Literacy Drive 4.0 will expand its reach with book donations, mobile libraries, and creative student engagement through art competitions.

By integrating DIY green projects, upcycling initiatives, and tree planting into its programming, Ekopages continues to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious and socially responsible young leaders, ensuring that the impact of SDG Literacy Drive endures for years to come.

The SDG Literacy Drive 3.0 was a transformative experience, made possible by The Pollination Project grant. With the funding, we expanded our reach, engaged more children and educators, and strengthened our sustainability education efforts.
