In a world increasingly impacted by environmental crises, empowering the next generation with the tools to take action is more important than ever. GREEN GLOBE’s “Training of Children as Climate Rescuers” project, supported by The Pollination Project, set out to do just that, equipping students in Bamenda, Cameroon, with the knowledge, leadership skills, and practical experience to become environmental advocates within their schools and communities.

The Project

In response to escalating environmental challenges, GREEN GLOBE launched the “Training of Children as Climate Rescuers” project to equip young people with the tools to become proactive environmental stewards. Focused on critical topics such as climate change, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and sustainable waste management, the initiative sought to inspire action through education and leadership. Twenty students from GBHS Down Town Bamenda were selected and trained as lead climate educators, taking on the responsibility of guiding their peers and coordinating an environmental club. These student leaders became symbols of change – donning orange T-shirts bearing the logos of The Pollination Project and GREEN GLOBE – as they led a “pass-it-on” peer education model that energized the entire school community.

The Impact of the Seed Grant

The Pollination Project’s grant served as a vital catalyst, turning vision into impact. With the funding, GREEN GLOBE not only achieved its educational goals but also fostered an active, student-led movement for sustainability. The 20 trained students blossomed into confident youth leaders who championed environmental issues both within and beyond the school grounds. The establishment of the environmental club further deepened this impact, creating a structured space for ongoing education and engagement. Practical activities like tree planting and landscaping significantly transformed the school’s physical environment, contributing to long-term ecological benefits in a region deeply affected by environmental stress. The project’s structure and success also laid the groundwork for replication in other schools, showcasing a scalable and sustainable model for environmental education.

The Future

Looking ahead, the project is poised to expand its reach and deepen its roots. Plans include involving parents and neighboring schools to build a broader community of climate-conscious citizens. Continued support from The Pollination Project and new partners will be essential to sustain and scale the initiative. Monitoring and evaluating long-term outcomes, such as tree survival rates and changes in student behavior, will guide future efforts. With its replicable framework and growing momentum, the “Training of Children as Climate Rescuers” project promises to cultivate a generation of young environmental leaders, united by a shared mission of protecting the planet.

Working with the TTP if very Fullfilling. The model of the TTP grant making process is top notch and second to non. This enable great works to be done with high efficacy.
