Fred Batale graduated as a visual artist from Makerere University, where he acquired knowledge, skills and experience in working with different creative methods. His artistic practices deal with themes of disability empowerment, rights, and advocacy. Given the challenges he faces in Uganda living as a person with a disability, he knows that he is not the only individual with such challenges. That is why he works to empower others like himself and educate the greater community that any one person is capable of pursuing their dreams through Disability Art Project Uganda.
He participated in the Unlimited commissions UK as international placement where he was exposed to skills of commissioning arts projects and festival management, now in YALI program of East Africa he is learning leadership skills and business idea generations.
Fred is the founder and director of Disability Art Project Uganda (DAPU), for which he received a Pollination Project grant. Disability Arts Project Uganda (DAPU) is a registered company limited by guarantee established to empower PWDs to realize their creative potential, confidence, and equip them to use arts as a tool for their economic
development and advocacy.
