Shawna Jo’ Weaver, 310 Miles Project

Date grant awarded: October 13, 2016

The north shore marks the beginning of the Great Lakes watershed, which contains 20% of the world’s fresh water, so keeping the headwaters healthy is critical for millions of people. Shawna initiated the 310 Miles Project and ran the span of lakeshore along the Superior Hiking Trail, running over a marathon every day for nine days to gain understanding of the land with the goal to share her adventure and conversations to build a sense of community resilience and pride as everyone works to sustain the land and water and make empowered decisions about resource use.
