Linelly Olmeda Santos, Building Community Through Movement and Dance for Children in Foster Care
Children in foster care experience multiple trauma and loss affecting their ability to form relationships and experience a sense of belonging, safety, support and self-esteem. Building Community through Movement and Dance (BCMD) for Children in Foster Care will integrate creative movement and dance/movement therapy, a form of psychotherapy which uses movement or dance, to address their emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioral needs. For one year BCMD will have several groups of children meet once a week to dance, move and interact with each other in a safe place. They will be able to express their emotions, build problem solving and coping skills as well as work on increasing self-esteem, trust, social skills, body awareness and empowerment.
