Kathleen Kane, Compassionate Connections: The Intersections of Feminism and Animal Rights

Kathleen Kane organized Feminism and Animal Rights Panel at UCLA which focuses on examining the intersections of feminism and animal rights. With the help of one of the panelists, educator, founder and director of ‘Project Intersect,’ Jacqueline Adamescu, they were able to form this panel which also includes lauren Ornelas of Food Empowerment Project and Aph Ko of Black Vegans Rock and Aphro-ism. As a UCLA student who saw such a tremendous feminist community and energy on campus, her aim in forming the panel was to introduce and inform her fellow peers and the surrounding community the notions of intersectionality and solidarity among varying social justice movements.

Her goal is to use the panel as a jumping point for the organization she founded, Intersectional Feminists for Animals, where she will continue the work of the panel in the community and also serve to support and empower women in the animal rights community who have faced the detrimental effects of sexism, transphobia, and other forms of oppression.
