In 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines and as a result the town of town of Albuera in Leyte lost micronutrients essential to ones diet. Jed Christian Sayre recognizes the importance of vegetable farming to help bridge this gap and thus created the Philippines Heirloom Vegetable Seeds Project, providing open pollinated high-valued vegetable seeds to 750 youth backyard gardeners. While the project will address food security and nutrition, it also hopes to provide economic security to its participants.
