Julia Hollins and Daniel Culbreth, North Durham Youth Empowerment Project(YEP)Share This:
The North Durham Youth Empowerment Project’s (YEP)‘s purpose is to provide Broadway East youth in Baltimore City, MD with programs and workshops that will develop activities of daily living.
YEP focuses on the ages of 6 through 14 in which developmental and social change occurs and are more dramatic. Starting the 1st grade and starting the 9th grade are two major milestones in a child’s life and the ages in between have a better understanding of violence and consequences.
Their goal is to get the youth to appreciate their community by keeping it clean, learn how to grow their own food, sew their own clothes, build their own crafts, learn right from wrong and praying in the time of trouble instead of submitting to violence.
The program goes beyond the traditional anti-bulling and “stop fighting” initiatives. They hope to build empathy, igniting a movement of compassion and positive change.
