The Other Side Of Farmland & The Consequences
Stefania Prandi – Italy 2016 – 2019
STEFANIA
PRANDI
Stefania Prandi received her first grant in 2016 for her project “Oro Rosso, The other side of farmland“, a photographic project on immigrant female workers sexually harassed and coerced in greenhouses and fields housing Italian vegetables, grown all over the country to be exported internationally. These women are from Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Nigeria and India. In some regions there are also Italian workers. They are employed in several Italian areas, such as Sicily, Apulia, Lazio, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy. Thanks to the grant she got from the Pollination project, she was able to start this work in Sicily and then to find more funds to continue the investigation in Morocco and Spain. Now this is a huge and an important project with an international exposure.

Stefania Prandi received the second grant in 2019 for her other work “The Consequences”. an exploration into the somber reality of domestic violence in Italy. The project is a response to a harrowing statistic: in Italy, a woman is murdered every two days, often at the hands of someone she once trusted as a partner or spouse. Stefania Prandi’s frustration lies with the societal and media narrative that often diminishes the responsibility of the perpetrators, attributing such acts of violence to misplaced notions of “love and jealousy.”With “The Consequences,” Stefania delves into the lives shattered by domestic violence, giving voice to the stories and the silent agony left in the wake of such tragedies. The project employs a blend of narratives, photography, and the stark truths of the aftermath that these victims’ families must endure. The work transcends mere storytelling, it is a visual chronicle and a testament to the lives that are often overlooked after the media attention fades.
The work, started with the support of a seed grant, culminated in an award-winning book and a traveling photographic exhibition, which have become a beacon of hope and a source of profound inspiration for the families affected and the victims themselves. Her efforts have been instrumental in challenging the entrenched perspectives on violence against women and fostering a dialogue to reconsider the narratives surrounding such acts.
Receiving accolades for her impactful work, “The Consequences” was honored with the Bronze Star Award from the ND Awards (Neutral Density Awards) and achieved finalist status at Shoot The Face.
“You trusted me. With your grant you encouraged me in continuing a work that now is international, you showed me that what I was doing was important, nonetheless the difficulties. You help me to find the ways the to carry on.” – Stefania Prandi
