Wide Angle Recycling & Film Center
he Wide Angle Recycling & Film Center is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that aims to protect the environment by reducing/preventing the incredible amount of waste produced within the entertainment industry, while providing affordable access to filmmaking equipment and education. They also hope to lower the barriers to entry for a successful career in arts and entertainment.
The sad truth is that many film, TV and other media productions toss valuable materials in the trash at the end of production due to ease and lack of time. In addition to this issue, Hollywood is extremely underrepresented in regards to diversity, with white males holding most main roles both behind and in front of the camera. In many cases, this is due to lack of affordable access to necessary equipment.
The Wide Angle Recycling and Film Center offer an eco-friendly alternative by offering tax deductions for recyclable/reusable materials. They hope that by providing affordable access to cameras, equipment, props, set decorations, costumes, and other materials, as well as film and media education, they will be able to increase the number of diverse media makers.
The organization will set up a brick and mortar film center in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles where they can operate their three programs; a property house, film equipment rental house, and a film education center.
