Valerie Wangnet, Humane Education in the Australian School System
With a background in education and communications, Valerie started ThinkKind as a way of bringing humane education into Australian classrooms. Humane education does not currently play a role in the Australian education system, yet concerns over animal protection issues are increasing considerably amongst Australians, particularly in regards to factory farming, kangaroo culling and Australia’s high kill rate of companion animals.
The ThinkKind website was created in April 2013 and offers free educational resources, learning materials and information for parents, teachers and students. ThinkKind aims to provide resources that challenge the relationship between humans and other animals. Valerie is working with a handful of likeminded teachers and individuals to develop quality lesson plans, work sheets and ideas for Australian teachers that meet the current school curriculum.
Pollination Project funds will be used for promotional materials and marketing.
