Toi Scott, Vegan Anti-Racist Changemaker
Toi Scott is an author, playwright, spoken word artist, filmmaker, journalist, food justice activist, anti-racist, anti-oppression organizer, gender workshop facilitator and curriculum developer, and recipient of one of the Sistah Vegan Project’s Vegan Anti-Racist Changemaker Awards.
As a gender/queer activist of color, Toi has often faced discrimination and marginalization, even within social movements supposedly geared toward the advancement of equality and liberation. Nonetheless, Toi has not allowed these experiences to define them; rather they have dedicated themself to providing their intersectional perspective on the place of race and gender in social movements through various media outlets, as well as working on the ground in their community towards universal liberation.
To date, Toi has authored an enormous body of philosophical and artistic works on the intersectionality of gender, race, and activism. Through their work, Toi seeks to co-create a world without identity-based discrimination, a world where social determinants don’t guarantee disparities, where the most basic needs are met, where rights are not just rhetoric, and where people are valued more than capital and corporations.
