Terrance Ransom Jr, Upbeat Games
Terrance Ransom Jr. is a young, motivated leader who has an innovative solution to one of the most daunting problems in his community. Violence has become a social norm in most parts of Oakland and there are limited resources available to support young people when they experience the loss of a loved one. Based on his personal experiences, Terrance is working on creating an engaging, culturally relevant tool that can be used by schools and counselors to support young people when they experience trauma and grief.
With the help of his team, Terrance will launch Upbeat Games, a social enterprise that creates video games addressing social problems. The team of committed and experienced mentors are current working on developing Lucid, a game that will support the youth in overcoming trauma and grief. They’ve presented their vision for Upbeat Games to a panel of local leaders and have been meeting regularly to develop Lucid. They’ve also raised additional funds to attend the E3 video game conference in San Diego. The game will be marketed to schools and counselors as an affordable and beneficial tool to support young people as a resource to effectively process traumatizing events in their lives.
“This is a social justice solution that promotes peace, health and well being for everyone involved,” Terrance said.
