TaWanda Duncan, Redemption House of Hope & Comfort

Date grant awarded: 1/19/2017

I am TaWanda Duncan, founder of Redemption House of Hope & Comfort. I am looking forward to assisting victims with a place to be able to come and feel safe. So many victims are turned away at these battered women shelters due to lack of space. Then are forced back into a unsafe environment that may cause them their lives and maybe even their children’s lives. We at Redemption House of Hope & Comfort want these victims to be able to trust the members of our team to guide them in the right direction in healing.

These victims deserve their dignity back and we want to assist with the healing process and they will be able to focus on transitioning and gaining stability. Each victim will have to do an intake, receive counseling, adhere to drug testing, and participate in the employment assistance programs. Many resources will be made available to these victims. Our organization will work closely with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Youth & Family Services, Hospitals, Affordable Housing partners, and other shelters to assist with making their transitioning successful. I have screened a team of ten high community leaders that range from Nurses to Counselors to volunteer their time and expertise to these victims.
