Take Back Our Streets

Take Back Our Streets Coalition: The East Oakland Collective, Global Communication Education & Arts, The Johnson Brothers – Take Back Our Streets Coalition and Campaign

Date grant awarded: 11/08/2017

The East Oakland Collective (EOC) is a member-based community organizing group invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland, California, by working towards racial and economic equity. With Oakland losing too many of Black and Brown youth, young adults and loved ones due to senseless acts of violence, EOC has embarked on a journey to assist families and communities left with pain and trauma. In collaboration with Global Communication Art & Education and The Johnson Brothers, the Take Back Our Streets (TBOS) Coalition and Campaign is a collaborative and citywide united effort to implement direct street actions, education, training and healing to help solve community problems from within.

TBOS is honored to be awarded a grant from The Pollination Project for use in street outreach and focus groups to engage youth, young adults and underserved community members such as low income, at risk youth and formerly incarcerated in TBOS programming. TBOS intends on hosting workshops during 2017-2018, focusing on community policing and community relationships with local police; host meetings for community led action groups on public safety, inter-communal and state sanctioned violence.
