Sonwabo Modimoeng, South African Waste Management Enterprises
Sonwabo Modimoeng was chosen as a changemaker by Spark International in 2014 for his role as founder of Faded Black Innovation, a South African entrepreneurial organization that creates sustainable solutions in underserved communities.
Faded Black Innovation’s programs are largely geared towards impoverished South African youth and students. “We believe in a South Africa where entrepreneurship is viewed as a career, taught in schools, and encouraged in communities,” Sonwabo explains. “Our mission is to give social entrepreneurs the business and leadership tools they need to work their way out of poverty.”
In their latest outreach effort, Faded Black Innovation is providing 25 South African youth from Bekkersdal with business training and entrepreneurial opportunities in Waste Management. Youth will receive training in business management, assistance in starting their own waste management businesses, and will be provided with organizational support over a period of 24 months to ensure the success of their enterprises.
Over the course of 12 months Sonwabo hopes to establish 10 businesses that will impact the lives of over 1000 people in the community.
