Shari Jones, Made with a Dash of Love Always

Shari Jones has a passion for giving back to young children in her community. Raised in South Central, Los Angeles by a hard working, single mother, she had to learn how to take care of herself at an early age. As a result, she turned to cooking and baking as a way to cope with the growing pains of life.

Shari created a mentoring program called Made with a Dash of Love Always where she teaches kids, teens and adults the importance of preparing vegan, healthy, organic meals along with basic kitchen fundamentals and the importance of healthy eating. Her work addresses the need for a healthy alternative to overall wellness for low income families in inner city Los Angeles, and she wants to show youth how to use all natural, organic, vegan ingredients to make healthy and delicious meals.

This fall, Shari and volunteers are currently working with 30 elementary school aged youth through her community partnership with Grantee Jamila Banks, and Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation. Her goals are to form  sustainable relationships with local farmers markets and food banks to get fresh fruits and vegetables donated to help give youth healthy alternatives. Currently, she is the only grass roots program working on this issue within a 20 mile radius.

“Being able to create a healthy, vegan meal for yourself and your family is one of those priceless gifts that not only feed your stomach, but help to sooth your mind, body and spirit.” – Shari Jones
