Seyi Olojo – Barnard Columbia First Generation Writers Project

Date grant awarded: 09/27/2017

The Barnard-Columbia First Gen Writers Project is a year long program where first generation college students, some of whom are first generation Americans, explore the various narratives of their identities through literary creativity. This yearlong program which was created by Oluwaseyi Olojo, will feature an anthology that will depict the stories of students who share non-traditional American identities within higher education. Readers will have the opportunity to gain insight into the defining moments in which these students grapple with their identities and the decision making process that followed. The goal of the Barnard-Columbia First Gen Writers Project is to foster solidarity between these student writers and produce a seminal work to contribute to the ever growing conversation surrounding the cultural development of first generation college students within modern American society.
