Sarah Yooyoung Cho – Sports Day for North Korean Refugee Family and Children

Date grant awarded: June 22, 2018

Sarah Yooyoung Cho is the founder of the project, “Sports Day for North Korean Refugee Family and Children”, located in Los Angeles, CA. Family and children from North Korean Refugees and other low- income communities are invited to come and enjoy sports day. The sports day will give opportunities for people living in the Los Angeles area to socialize and to network.

This project’s goal is build a strong community through interaction. They also have a licensed Taekwondo instructor who is also experienced working with autistic children. Youth growing up in the Los Angeles face limited space for fitness activities and social interaction. Children can benefit from taking Taekwondo classes because it will help discipline children through building sportsmanship.

This grant will help Sarah purchase class materials and supplies. She was inspired to start the project to give families and children the opportunity to interact with the community.
