Social Justice Sewing Academy
SJSA addresses the lack of free sewing and art making opportunities for youth in under-resourced communities. We tackle this by providing free programming to those communities. This work is important to me because I have seen the power of art in sharing opinions, informing communities, and being called to action!
The initial seed grant from TPP allowed us to buy fabric, basting glue, and sewing machines to really build the foundation of providing free SJSA programming to allow youth to use textile arts as a form of expression. Receiving this follow up award, will really help us with not only the costs associated to allowing youth to be creating the art – but also and as equally important – showing the art!
We invited eligible grantees to apply for up to $5,000 in Impact Grants which will allow them to apply their creativity and ingenuity to grow their projects to greater heights.
