Ngoc Nguyen, NansheShare This:
Ngoc Nguyen is an attorney, social entrepreneur, and the founder of Nanshe, an organization that is helping refugee and immigrant women in New York City build sustainable futures through community-oriented, entrepreneur development and support programs.
According to the New York Mayor’s Office and the Fiscal Policy Institute, although immigrant and refugee women make up 50% of business owners in NYC they are the least likely to have access to the financial resources for starting or growing their businesses, leaving them unable to compete for profitable infrastructure and urban development contracts.
At Nanshe, Ngoc provides strategic legal, financial, and capacity-building support to immigrant and refugee female business owners throughout the city. In addition to helping female business owners access financial resources, Nanshe offers a no-fee, peer-to-peer loan program funded by and for community-centered businesses owners throughout the city.
By the end of the 2015 Nanshe will provide more than 50 business owners with over $80,000 in interest free loans using the peer to peer gift economy model.
