Michelle Churches RN-MSN Student, “Caritas project”
Date grant awarded: July 12, 2016
In 1973, 10 year old Michelle Churches planted a spruce tree at the Ecorse, Michigan library with her friends in the bibliophile club. After 30 years in nursing, Michelle earned an Advanced Practice Nursing Degree and chose the city of Ecorse for her public health project. The public health nursing project blossomed into the Caritas project. Today, the Ecorse library is in need of some attention, inside and out. A lack of education perpetuates poverty. A library is one of the cornerstones to any community, a key to unlock a successful future. Planting a children’s garden would make it attractive, and enrich minds, environment and ecology. Together, this project serves the local environment, the residents, the community and the earth.
