Michelle Nicolet, Angela Shields – Kids in Nutrition Food Sustainability Curriculum
Kids in Nutrition (KIN) is a nutrition and food sustainability education program that aims to educate the younger generation on how to lead sustainable and healthy lives. This program was developed to help mitigate climate change and improve the nation’s nutrition by inspiring kids to be more thoughtful about how their individual dietary choices impacts themselves and the world around them. KIN utilizes a peer-to-peer behavioral change approach by mobilizing university students to become advocates for dietary change within their local communities.
KIN currently has chapters in Santa Barbara, Berkeley, Irvine, San Diego, Los Angeles, Boston, Auburn, and Salt Lake City. Each individual chapter is run by a local director team of five college students, who oversee a larger pool of instructors that carry out the lessons in local elementary schools.
