Megan Szrom, Bryan Deans – Indigenous Wisdom & Permaculture Skills Convergence

Date grant awarded: August 29, 2018

The Indigenous Wisdom & Permaculture Skills Convergence is an initiative of Megan Szrom in collaboration with Lakota tribal member Bryan Deans. IWPS Convergence brings together renowned ecological teachers, tribal resiliency groups, and participants from around the country to co-create sustainable infrastructure and join a variety of skill sharing workshops on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The Convergence takes place August 26th – September 3rd, 2018.

All convergence projects are led by Lakota community organizers. Under the guidance of ecological experts, they will construct a naturally built Indigenous Wisdom Center focused on language and cultural preservation, help set up food security hubs, and construct appropriate technologies. Attendees will gain hands-on experience in permaculture and ecological design, while Pine Ridge residents will continue to reap the benefits of the infrastructure built. The Pollination Project grant will help Megan purchase expenses for the workshop, fuel for local teachers, and offer a community steward stipend scholarship program.
