Mary Shimwenyi – Enhancing Indigenous Knowledge
We, Shimashik, realized that Malava Forest was under pressure of encroachment and logging of the indigenous plantation. Together, we started sensitizing the community on the need to conserve the indigenous areas and protect the natural water catchment areas generating from the forest, which supplies water to the communities in Malava and beyond. Due to the poor protection of the water points, the capacity has decreased.
We intend to replant water friendly trees along the river banks through raising indigenous tree nursery. We also want to plant the indigenous trees in the affected areas.
