Mark Strandquist, Windows From Prison: New Monuments, Impact Grant 2014

Mark Strandquist is an artist, activist and educator who facilitates unique participatory public art projects.

Based in Richmond, Virginia,  Mark’s project, Windows from Prison // Youth to Youth facilitates dialogue and exchange between incarcerated and non-incarcerated youth, creating a peer-to-peer support structure as well as provide space and the tools for teens to identify and propose solutions to the societal issues that have led to mass incarceration.

Windows From Prison: New Monuments bridges the gap between those in power, and communities of color, which are most impacted by mass incarceration, leading to civic, educational, and economic disenfranchisement. This project implements a creative community think tank that features incarcerated men, women, and teens, and a multitude of socially engaged artists, designers, trauma care specialists and the leading policy advocates around criminal justice in Virginia. The Impact Grant will be used to help produce their media campaigns, interactive installations, and public events.
