Kofoworola Oyeleye – Ecopencils to rebuild lives

Date grant awarded: January 30, 2020

KoweGreen is an eco-pencil production company recycling paper into high-quality pencils. We are a socially conscious organization ensuring our processes impact the environment and our community positively.

Since the “Boko Haram” terrorist attacks began spreading in Nigeria in 2010 over 1.7million people have had to flee their homes and now live in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) Camps, the conditions of these camps are mainly poor due to the volume of people and limited resources. Women in these camps are particularly vulnerable, as they sometimes subject to abuse for survival.

KoweGreen is giving these women a chance to earn a decent living and work towards rebuilding their lives outside the camps, while also contributing to the protection of the environment. These Women join us in promoting sustainable paper waste management, ensuring a circular economy, and contributing to the reduction in deforestation caused by wood-based pencils globally.

KoweGreen’s creation was inspired by the desire to give the displaced women a constant source of livelihood, and their dignity back. This seed grant from The Pollination Project will help us get a conducive location to run the location from, and fully commence our activities.
