Kimmie Tran, Van Sam, Celine Chen, Joanne Yi – MOVE: Asian Pacific Islander Community Organizing Fellowship

Date grant awarded: June 22, 2018

The “MOVE: Asian Pacific Islander Community Organizing Fellowship” began at UC Berkeley in Fall 2017, and works to bridge the on-campus student community with the off-campus community, specifically API grassroots organizations in the Bay Area. This project was inspired by the Seeding Change fellowship hosted by the Chinese Progressive Association, and similarly, MOVE places students as fellows at host community organizations for the fellows to build strong relationships, receive community wisdom, and gain hands-on experiential learning.

MOVE intends to hopefully facilitate the pipeline for the new generation of community organizers and expand their community support network to fight for social justice. The grant will allow MOVE to purchase promotional materials, such as flyers, in order to do outreach and increase awareness of their fellowship and work towards building community power.
