Joash Omondi Ombuya is a professional nurse who grew up in Kanyamedha/ Kanyamony village and witnessed youths’ lives being ruined by drug and substance abuse, girls dropping out of school due to early pregnancy or missed classes due to lack of sanitary towels during their menses, and the struggles of older community members who are sick but are not capable of meeting their hospital expenses. Through RHEDSCAH project, Joash identifies needy youth aged (14-22) and trains them on reproductive health, distributes reusable sanitary products, counsels them on drug and substance abuse, works with them to provide vocational training, and sponsors medical cover like National hospital Insurance Fund for the elderly and those living with HIV in order to build a better and healthy community.
