Every evening in Siaya, Kenya the community members, primarily women and children, walk for one hour to trade produce and charge mobile phones at the nearest market, often resulting in unsafe situations during the dark, long walk back to town. Irene Awuor Otieno has created the Kotiang Community Center Project, which seeks to build a community center in the village to act as a safe meeting place for the community to trade closer to their homes, along with phone charging station. The community has united together, contributing 126USD for a mill to grind maize into flour and volunteering their time to help with construction.
