Heather Borders, Northeast Florida Guide to Farms, Local Food, and Sustainability

Date grant awarded: 06/15/2017

The Northeast Florida Guide to Farms, Local Food, and Sustainability eBook project was developed by Kimberly Ferguson, an undergraduate student in the school of public health at University of North Florida as part of a required 300-hour internship. Heather Borders, a Registered Dietitian and founder of Kailo Nutrition, facilitated and supervised the project.

People are disconnected from their food and don’t understand the significant role that food systems play in our health. In the last several years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of farms and farmer’s markets in the Northeast Florida area. This eBook will be an easy way to promote local farmers and farmer’s markets, the incredible educational opportunities they provide (farm tours, classes and hands-on experiences), and ultimately another way to educate the public on the health benefits of locally sourced produce. It contains all the information that someone would need to learn more about food, food systems, health, and benefits of buying local. This eBook will be easily be emailed/downloaded/distributed to large volumes of people (for free!).
