Emmanuel Muhire Karake and Gakuba Fidele, Scouts Camp Championship for Environmental Sustainability

Date grant awarded: June 23, 2016

Proper sanitation leads to proper waste management. Being part of Scouts Camp Championship for Environmental Sustainability led Mr. Emmanuel Muhire Karake to understand the urgency of taking action on waste management for environmental sustainability and addressing environmental hazards in Rwanda. The project is bringing together 600 youth scouts in Gasabo District who will receive training on waste management and ecotourism for environmental sustainability. The same scouts will be the driver for community awareness campaigns on waste management especially on sorting and recycling and 10,000 people will be reached by this campaign in the Rwanda through the use of the scout method as started by Robert Baden Powell. Rwanda Scouts Association believes that youth are an active force for behavior change and sustainable development and need to be empowered physically and spiritually.
