StrawFree.org is an organization dedicated to the elimination of plastic straws—one bamboo straw at a time. Diana Lofflin, StrawFree.org founder, was moved to action after seeing the amount of plastic straws picked up at local beach cleanups. In fact, more than 500,000,000 straws are used each day in the United States.
StrawFree.org hosts educational booths at schools and community events to encourage individuals and businesses to commit to refuse plastic straws. The organization also sells re-usable bamboo straws with 100% of the proceeds going towards educational efforts. Each straw is made by volunteers using locally harvested bamboo in Huntington Beach, California.
This year, we anticipate giving away 10,000 bamboo straws at educational events, which will reduce plastic straw waste by 10,000 to 100,000 straws.
