Darel Scott – Earth in Color

Date grant awarded: October 11, 2019

Earth in Color is a venture based in the Bay Area, California that seeks to heal people and the planet. Through immersive nature experiences and digital zines, this venture facilitates environmental behavior change, cultivates earth curiosity, and empowers people of color.

Through her work at the intersection of race and the environment, Darel Scott, the creator of Earth in Color, found that engaging with nature and sustainability is the missing link in the journey to healing and justice for people of color. She believes that healing the fraught relationships that people of color have with the natural world can close cultural gaps in the environmental movement and help people heal from historical traumas. This grant will allow Earth in Color to publish its first zine, which will archive the earth stories of people of color and highlight important human-environmental issues.
