Dakota McMahand – Budding Artists

Date grant awarded: January 4, 2019

Established in October 2018, Budding Artists was conceptualized between two close friends, Sarah Tanberg and Dakota McMahand, both educators, seeking to create sustainable change in under-resourced black and brown communities. They are a collective of artists and community developers who are actively seeking to solve the lack of arts education opportunities for pre-kindergarten aged children living in Los Angeles County.

The project’s objective is to provide free process-based art experiences to children aged 3 to 5 years who live in under-resourced communities within LA Count while preparing students for successful participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs as a pathway of attracting more underrepresented ethnic groups and women into STEM fields.
