Barbara Lock, PowerSource Tucson, Inc. – The Next Step

Barbara Lock is a businesswoman who was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at 57.  She has since dedicated her time to helping other women through PowerSource Tucson, Inc, an empowerment organization that provides programs for women living with HIV/AIDS in the greater Tucson, Arizona area. It is the only woman-centered service provider of its kind in the state of Arizona.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services report, HIV/AIDS Annual Report – 2013, females/women comprise 14.2% of the population with 369  women diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Pima County. Due to improved treatment, women are living longer with HIV/AIDS, and women over the age of 60 are especially in need of support. PowerSource Tucson, Inc, currently serves 10% of the diagnosed women in Pima County and has the unique opportunity to reach women of color, including African-American, Latina, Native American and refugees in the area.  The program is also inclusive of transgender women and female-identifying men living with HIV/AIDS.

The Pollination Project funding will be used as to seed “The Next Step” project, a group training that includes Wellness, Self-Esteem and First Aid/CPR certification for clients, plus a way for them to build a support network among their peers.
