Agriculture is the backbone of the economy in The Gambia, with women producing 40% of the food consumed in the household. In the town of Wassu, Balanding Manneh and Saiga Sowe have created the Wassu Women’s Garden Project to help female vegetable gardeners increase harvest yields and thus their income. The project will train women on sustainable techniques, including garden bed preparation, sowing, harvesting and sorting methods for the various types of vegetables produced.
