Achiro Dorky Elizabeth – Training of Hand Pump Mechanics and Spring Well Mansions
I was moved by the plight women and youth go through to access clean and safe water. There is low water coverage in Lira, Uganda as well as several water points broken down with no one to fix and repair them hence low functionality. Women and youth – as well as children – walk long distances in search of clean and safe water. This situation gets worse during dry seasons when spring wells dry up and the few boreholes left result of overcrowding, and subsequently break down. As a result, I mobilize women and youth to form groups to register so that we can form a Community Based Organization where we look for funds to train mechanics and spring well mansions to always fix these water points so that the community has access to clean and safe water throughout the year.
