Academic Peer Education Project – Short Documentary about Peer Education at San Quentin Prison

Date grant awarded: 02/07/2018

The Academic Peer Education Project (APEP) provides teacher education to men incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison who, in turn, teach GED prep classes for their incarcerated peers. APEP counteracts the devastating impact of mass incarceration by empowering those most affected by it to repair the harm it’s done to individuals, their families, and our communities. Looking forward, we intend to leverage our limited resources toward preventing further harm. The project creates pathways for our work to reach beyond the walls of San Quentin while preserving the autonomy of incarcerated individuals in pursuit to their own empowerment.
