Topistar Were, Supporting Orphans Through Income-Generating Activities, Kakamega, Kenya

by | Jan 9, 2016 | What Does $1000 Do?

After receiving the grant in October, I started by mobilizing of 20 care takers/care givers of orphans whom we had already identified around sicharayi village and organized them in groups of five people each forming 4 groups and conducted a series of site training together with 4 project volunteers who are assisting the project directly in training.

Caretakers were trained in best skills in income generating activities targeting kitchen gardening. The caregivers were encouraged to form support groups that is going to help in marketing of produced products, and help creating seed revolving fund that will continue supporting other new recruits of the project for sustainability.
