Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. -Goethe
Laura Weiss was awarded a Pollination Project grant his past winter to build a community garden for refugee populations in Omaha, Nebraska. On her blog, Laura admits that when she was given the cash, “I uhhh.. had no idea what that meant.”
This is what happens when a dream is born. You feel it in your heart and it just won’t let go. You carry it with you, and then it starts taking shape in your mind. You think about how you would do it. You think about it when you are riding your bike or driving your car. Then your dream becomes a plan. You take the step to write it down on paper. Now it has real words attached to it, and it is in a format you can share widely. The dream starts coming to life.
In Laura’s case, she wrote down her dream (and a plan) and sent it to us. We gave her $1,000 for it. Now suddenly, Laura’s dream had financial backers. It wasn’t just an idea in her head. It now had people like us who wanted to see the dream become real; people who believed in Laura’s ability to make it happen. And Laura had that wonderful, magical moment of giving birth to a dream.
Laura writes: “Fast forward three months. Spring has sprung, workshops have happened, and we’ve got ourselves a budding and beautifully attended garden on 32nd and Webster, full of itty bitty plants, preparing themselves to produce pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, kale, squash, beets, arugula, watermelons, sunflowers, and mustard greeeeeeens! I saw a miniature pepper this afternoon in one of the plots. Hey hey!”
As Laura says on the Root Down blog, “This is only the beginning, but a beautiful beginning it has been!”
Congratulations to Laura and the Root Down community for your boldness- with genius, magic and power in it.
