A project to provide safe drinking water in the #G A project to provide safe drinking water in the #Gulu District, Uganda, where rural households have no access to clean and safe water and communicable diseases are water-related.

The people here travel long distances to collect water from the broken pipe water and streams which are contaminated especially during periods of constant rainfall. Women, girls and children spend a lot of time in getting pots of water for their drinking and usage purposes.

Our grantee Sarah Angwech is mobilizing her community and different resources to rehabilitating existing, or developing new community water infrastructures to better ensure a combination of a sufficient number of proximal sources that are sustainable and reliable over the course of the wet and dry season.

Her project aims also to protecting and improving water sources so they can be safely used for both livestock watering and human consumption.

Sarah's determination and commitment for her community is a great inspiration for us all!

In August, 2020, Alexandra Reep moved to #Tijuana In August, 2020, Alexandra Reep moved to #Tijuana to research the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic was impacting food security amongst migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers.
.
Through interviews with soup kitchen workers and nonprofit volunteers, she learned about how #COVID disrupted supply chains, halted food donations from the U.S., and strained the inflow of donor dollars to these soup kitchens.
.
She joined the garden project because she knew it had potential to serve as a sustainable solution to the malnutrition she witnessed at the two refugee shelters. The hope is that the garden's produce can be used in a meal for all 220 migrants daily and as a learning space for the shelter's youth.

Meet Tamara Blazquez Haik, our changemaker of the Meet Tamara Blazquez Haik, our changemaker of the week. Tamara is an incredible photographer and animal activist from Mexico City.

One day several years ago, photographer and animal activist Tamara Blazquez Haik was walking home when she came across a poisoned opossum lying dead on the sidewalk.

Many people might have kept walking and not given this a second thought, but Tamara couldn’t help but wonder why someone would want to hurt a creature so harmless. She further thought about how in her home of #mexicocity , many people seemed to view nature as alien; she reflected on how concepts like coexisting with wildlife seem far away amidst so much traffic, pollution and development.

Tamara decided to use her skills in photography to document as many species living in Mexico City as she could, and to use those images to spark awareness, empathy, and respect for the animals who live there.
