Christopher McGilvery, Give More HUGS (Helping Unite Giving Souls), Impact Grant 2016


Give More HUGS unites communities to help disadvantaged students have access to educational materials, books with inspirational messages, free Book Share Fairs, and backpacks filled with school supplies while working with students to become leaders who serve and improve their communities. My team and I will train students at schools to implement Project Based Service Learning (PBSL) to help improve communities through educational projects; host annual book and school supplies drives in South Central Texas and Greater New York regions; and increase community partners. Our goal is to help 10,000 students in the upcoming year!

Trish Schappell, The Kids’ Reading Room, Impact Grant 2016


The Kids' Reading Room 2017 goal is to grow our organization! We wish to connect with donors, partner with other non profit organizations, build our Board members, expand to more apartments, and build our volunteer base. We feel a Project Manager will help us meet our goal. We plan to use the funds on a Project Manager. If we are not able to find a knowledgeable project manager, we will use the funds for the last payment of our new website design, student fruit snacks, books, and furnishings for possible new room in the future.

1-Shine Youth & Community Services (1Shine) is a comprehensive multi-service community based organization that deals with the development and cultivation of youth and teens in within South Bay cities such as: Compton, Long Beach, and surrounding cities. 1Shine provides youth and adolescents of with educational, leadership, and performing arts programming that engages students in enriching activities designed to prepare them for academic success and positive personal development. 1 Shine Youth Services will use this grant to purchase performing arts equipment for the youth and teens as well as renew the websites for our organization.
