Major Gifts Officer

The Pollination Project seeks to unleash the goodness in each person we come into contact with (and beyond), therefore becoming a formidable antidote to apathy and indifference. We make seed grants to individuals and small start-up organizations who seek to spread compassion in their communities and the world at large. Since we began, The Pollination Project has made over 4,000 grants in 116 countries. Through pollinating and amplifying the good in our grantees, we hope to create the conditions for new ecologies of compassion consciousness in society.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Major Gifts Officer at The Pollination Project (TPP) you will work in conjunction with the Director of Philanthropy and the Executive Director.
You will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing our major gift program. This will include managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects.
This is a role for a creative thinker who is comfortable innovating, and is not averse to pioneering new ways of thinking and working. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission and values is key. You’ll be expected to energize team members, inspire prospects and dream big.
As our manager of the major gift program you will:
- Support donors in accomplishing their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
- Secure major gifts with the goal of supporting our grantee community.
- Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database.
- Manage existing portfolio of donors and prospects.
- Work with the development department to align efforts and set goals.
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
- Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition
- Track and report progress using specific metrics
- Engagement and genuine alignment with the mission of The Pollination Project;
- Fund development experience and a solid understanding of the core components of an effective fundraising program;
- An “attitude of gratitude” that compliments the worldview of the amazing donors we work with;
- Appreciation for people and their diversity, coupled with an ability to relate well and work with multiple constituencies and audiences;
- Creative, entrepreneurial and strategic thinking;
- Storytelling and communications skills; articulate and persuasive with a desire to build authentic relationships with donors and others;
- Resiliency, initiative, and the ability to work independently;
