Unlocking Silent Histories (2015 Impact Grant)

Indigenous youth often find their voices marginalized. Donna DeGennaro founded Unlocking Silent Histories to help young indigenous Guatemalans develop a platform from which their voices can be heard. Providing the tools and training with which they can create videos and stories in their own words, USH’s program has helped these youth be heard. Strongly youth centered and led, the organization is steadily expanding its reach, and films produced by the young participants will be shown at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in 2016. This impact grant will provide equipment to enable more young people to tell their stories.
