Troy Horton and Sasha Shankar, AfricaTown Youth Permaculture Food Forest

A man is photographed holding a sweet potation that was just harvested from the garden bed he is sitting next to.

Through the AfricaTown Youth Permaculture Food Forest in Oakland, California, Troy Horton and Sasha Shankar believe that youth delinquency can be addressed through connecting oneself back to the earth. Participating youth will gain trainings in entrepreneurial skills, food production, community wellness and permaculture alongside other life skills. With solid community alliances committed to helping the project, all efforts will help beautify, feed and enhance the community’s environmental condition.
