Textile & Book Artist Allyson Allen – Junk Journals – Beautifully Re-purposed/Altered Books

Date grant awarded: October 29, 2018

Textile and book artist Allyson Allen inspires individuals of all ages to be mindful of environmentally sustainable art by teaching them to create Junk Journals – beautifully re-purposed books. This clever and creative project produces fun and functional up-cycled books. Junk mail envelopes, recycled flyers, and damaged, out-of-circulation library books are transformed into unique personal journals, prolonging their usefulness as books and keeping them out of land fills.

All materials are provided and the workshops are free. Several southern California county museums, public libraries, community centers, and summer camps enthusiastically host these eco-friendly workshops.
