Shenika Jackson, My College Going Self

Date grant awarded: 2/13/2017

“My College Going Self” project, headed by Shenika S. Jackson and co-partner Jvonne Foster, plans to decrease high school drop-out rates and to enroll more African American males in higher education. The project aims to educate young African American males about the history of African American “historians”, the importance of historical black colleges, and their heritage.

The goal is to instill in African American males the importance of education and to assist others in their communities through workshops and small group discussions. “My College Going Self” Project will provide a means of self-sufficiency, self-pride, and empowerment.
