Sandra Hannen, Guatemalan Activist Safety Fund
Sandra Hannen works in Guatemala helping youth learn how to organize and take ownership of critical social justice campaigns. Human rights defenders in Guatemala must be brave, often facing judicial harassment and other threats.
One of the indigenous human rights activists with whom Sandra works, has recently been the victim of intimidation and physical attacks due to his work as an organizer.
Following the attacks, the young man has been publicly defamed and his family threatened. When he took his case to court, corrupt judicial officials threatened him with jail time if he pursued legal actions against the perpetrators.
One of the Pollination Project’s grant advisors is using our special designation of “flow funds” to support this activist through the Guatemalan Activist Safety Fund, as well as funding the costly legal proceedings involved in bringing his attackers to justice.
